Custom Signs

When you are thinking of ordering custom signs from an online portal, it is wise for you to know what to do and what not to do. Not only will this save you money, but it will also prevent you from wasting your time and your signage supplier’s time as well. You might not be aware of this but not being careful when you purchase your signs online can lead to a number of problems.

Some of the major problems people usually experience when they purchase their signs from an online outlet include wrong signs being delivered, wrong signs being made, errors in the signs, wrong materials, and a whole lot more. These issues could have been avoided had these individuals known what to do and what not to do when buying signs. To help you out, here are a few of these dos and don’ts that may prove somewhat helpful:

DO ask questions – if you are confused about a specific type of material, if you are not sure about the proper color contrasts, if you are torn between two different fonts, don’t hesitate to ask your manufacturer. Asking will help you find out more about what your chosen manufacturer can do for you and what they cannot. If you hesitate to ask questions, you may find yourself with one or all of the problems mentioned above.

DON’T presume anything – being presumptuous about the signs you are ordering may result in your being disappointed in what you get, or worse, needing to have signs remade because you thought the wrong thing about what was explained to you. If you are ever in doubt, always do rule number one, and that is to ask. Clarify everything so that you are not unpleasantly surprised by what you get. Presuming that your manufacturer already understands what you need may leave you dissatisfied with your signs. Being presumptuous about what you will be getting will also result in the same dissatisfaction.

DO study up on signage rules and regulations – when you have signs customized, you should know that some of these are subject to very strict rules and regulations, which are set by the government. It is important that you follow these rules, or you may find yourself with a non-compliance violation. Such violations can cost you money, so it is a good idea to arm yourself with the knowledge needed to create such signs with the right features that the ADA has mandated that these have on them.

DON’T hesitate to ask for help from a sign designer – if you cannot find the time to learn about the rules that govern ADA compliant signs, it might be a good idea to ask for help from signage designers that these companies may have. Some of these sign businesses have designer who have a rather wide knowledge of ADA rules, so they can help you design signage that is compliant as well as pleasing to the eyes at the same time.

These are just a few of the Dos and Don’ts that you should be aware of when ordering your customs signs, be it online or from a physical signage store. What other do’s and don’ts can you share with us when it comes to ordering signage for your business?
